The West Gippsland Bowls Division was formed on the 17th May 2011 when delegates from the G.D.L.B.A and the M.G.B.A voted at a meeting in the Trafalgar Bowls Club to form the new association. The decision was based on the unification policy that has been created by Bowls Victoria.
The W.G.B.D. comprises the eighteen clubs depicted on the map.
Mrs Barbara White who was elected as the chairperson of the Board of Management chaired the inaugural meeting which was represented by two members (female & male) from each club.
Gippsland is a region of great diversity and immense beauty, from the majesty of the Baw Baw Plateau, Great Dividing Range and the Victorian High Country, to the lush valleys and farming areas to the splendour of it’s beaches, lakes and coastal resorts.
Travelling to Gippsland is made easy via the Princes Freeway from Melbourne which is the capital city of Victoria. Traralgon with a population of 30,000 people is 160 kms from Melbourne and has the largest Bowls Club in the Division. A network of linking roads allow easy access to both city centres and rural townships, each one with it’s own unique experience including, power generation, arts and crafts, antiques, food and wine.
Gippsland enjoys the changing of the seasons. Summer’s balmy weather is perfect to enjoy the beaches and the many lakes. Winter sees the Alpine resorts and High Country come to life with visitors there to take in the breathtaking sights while enjoying their winter activities. The crisp mornings and blue skies that are often experienced during autumn and spring days, provide the perfect backdrop to exploring the many attractions and activities on offer
